About a year ago, I had 20 minutes to kill before going for an eye test appointment. As I love reading I found myself in the local book store and came across a book by Dolly Parton called Dream More. I read the blurb on the back “If I have a wish for you, it is that you: Dream more, learn more, care more, be more. Love Dolly”. That was it.
Those words really resonated with me, so I bought the book.
It is such a wonderful book. I urge you to read it, you will see Dolly Parton in a completely different light. It is based on the graduation speech she gave at the University of Tennessee which is also worth a listen.
Here are some of the amazing things Dolly Parton has said in her wonderful life:
“If you don’t like the road your walking, start paving another.”
“You will never do a whole lot unless you are brave enough to try.”
“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
“You’d be surprised how much it costs to look this cheap!”
“When I’m inspired, I get excited because I can’t wait to see what I will come up with next.”
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
“I’m not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes, because I know I’m not dumb. I also know I’m, not blonde.”
“Storms make trees take deeper roots.”
“We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails.”
“Being a star just means that you find your own special place, and that you shine where you are. To me that’s what being a star means.”
When Dolly graduated from school each child was asked to stand up and talk about what they were going to do with the rest of their lives. She said “I’m going to Nashville and I’m gonna be a star.” Everyone laughed! They weren’t being cruel they just weren’t used to hearing such big dreams.
So add a little Dolly Parton advice to your life…..dream more, learn more, care more and be more.
